Authorities have updated their investigation into the fatal shooting in the Westgate area of Lakewood, confirming that the incident has been ruled a suicide, according to law enforcement.

Officers from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office and Lakewood Police Department were called to the scene Wednesday night after reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, emergency responders located a woman with a fatal gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an initial investigation, officials determined that there was no threat to the public and that the death was self-inflicted. The woman’s identity has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
