Authorities Identify Cornelius Traves Murphy Jr., 19, of Warren, Found Dead in Pontiac Field

The Warren community is mourning the tragic loss of Cornelius Traves Murphy Jr., 19, whose life ended in a fatal shooting in Pontiac earlier this week.

Cornelius was found unresponsive in a field near the 100 block of North Jessie Street in Pontiac at approximately 8:16 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7. Authorities say he had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe the shooting occurred the previous evening, around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death. No arrests have been announced at this time.

At just 19 years old, Cornelius’ passing has left family, friends, and loved ones heartbroken. As Warren grieves this devastating loss, community members are being asked to keep his family and those who knew him in their thoughts and prayers.
