Authorities in Springville, Utah, are investigating a traffic incident that occurred Thursday night at 2085 South State Street, where a vehicle collided with a horse that had entered the roadway. The collision resulted in the death of one horse and prompted an emergency response due to additional animals running at large in the area.

According to officials, officers responded to reports of a horse running in traffic when a vehicle struck the animal. For safety reasons, both directions of South State Street were temporarily closed as responders worked to secure the scene and prevent further accidents. Drivers were urged to avoid the area while authorities addressed the situation.
Police confirmed that multiple horses were loose at the time of the incident, raising concerns for motorists and first responders. Efforts were made to locate and contain the remaining animals to reduce the risk of additional collisions.
Authorities are also seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the owner of the horses involved. In particular, officials are looking for information regarding an injured horse still at large, described as a bay horse estimated to be between 2 and 5 years old, with three white stockings and a white diamond marking on its forehead.
Anyone who recognizes this description or has information about the owner of the horses is asked to contact dispatch at 801-489-9421.
The investigation into how the horses accessed the roadway is ongoing. Officials reminded livestock owners of the importance of properly securing animals, especially near busy roads, to prevent dangerous situations for both animals and the public.
